Calibrating Your Vehicle Speedometer

A watch can be best described as a timepiece that is often made to be worn on a person. Watches are currently divided into analogue and digital types. An analogue watch typically displays only the time, while a digital watch completely displays the day, date, month and year. Since the measuring function of the watch is highly accurate and widely useful, the function has been applied by vehicle manufacturers into their products and utilised in a built-in car device known as a speedometer. The speedometer offers information based on the distance covered in one tire rotation and the amount of time necessary to complete the rotation. In order for your speedometer to accurately measure the true speed of your vehicle, you have to calibrate it correctly.

If your speedometer is inaccurate, you would not have any way of knowing what your true fuel economy is for your vehicle. For this reason, you have to calibrate the device in order to clearly validate the speedometer output against the true travelling speed of your vehicle. When the tire size of your vehicle changes, you need to complete a calibration process. To correct this, adjust the hairspring or modify the strength of the magnetic field. In order to customise the magnetic field, utilise a powerful electromagnet to adjust the internal settings of the speedometer in your vehicle by moving the magnet towards and away from the device.

Always keep in mind that the speed reading provided by the speedometer in your vehicle will usually be lower than the actual speed your vehicle is travelling. Whenever you are not sure if the speedometer is reading the true speed of your vehicle, employ a speedometer calibration right away.
